Housing Works fights for funding and legislation to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention, and treatment, among other lifesaving services.

Benefits

We have three comprehensive healthcare plans to choose from based on your priorities and budget. Housing Works covers most of the plan; you pay a portion, based on your salary. Staff begins accruing PTO immediately for a total of up to 30 days earned in the first year. We offer employees an educational benefit. This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU

Compensation Range: $20/hr - $22/hr commensurate with experience

Overview

The Dispensary Bud Specialist is the liaison between brands and budtenders. The Bud Specialist has a passion for cannabis, understands the different strains, trends, and product demand. The bud specialist demonstrates outstanding customer service and is a leader among their colleagues in regard to product knowledge, and time and attendance. Our ideal Bud specialist has previous experience working in the cannabis industry (dispensary experience preferred), has outstanding communication and organizational skills, and has an outgoing and friendly spirit. The Bud Specialist must actively embody and communicate our Mission Statement, be active in the local community and work to create an environment and culture that is reflective of the Housing Works Community Values. The Bud Specialist must be able to work with a team of folks from different backgrounds and be able to adapt to each of their personalities with ease. This role requires excellent verbal communication skills as you will be training your colleagues on new strains and product as well as working closely with vendors to relay product information to staff. In this role, you will work closely with the Dispensary Co-Manager/Buyer to relay information regarding product (customer feedback etc.) The responsibility of the Bud Specialist is to support the Dispensary budtender’s educational journey. Bud Specialist may be required to visit farms, and set up budtender trainings for the dispensary team. They are responsible for collecting feedback from budtenders and dispensary staff regarding new product. The Bud Specialist is also responsible for compiling the Dispensary Product Knowledge binder with all tech sheets and other brand assets.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Budtenders remain educated on new strains, brands and accessories.
  • Understand and fully implement Housing Works’ customer service program, showcasing exemplary customer service, including but not limited to greeting, saying thank you, explaining policies clearly and politely to the satisfaction of the customer, and by prioritizing assisting customers over all other shop tasks.
  • Conduct weekly rallies for dispensary staff outlining new product, and product feedback.
  • Develop a comprehensive Product and Brand Knowledge binder as well as upload this information into the dispensary SharePoint on a monthly basis.
  • Touchbase with the Dispensary Buyer monthly to go over trends and product needs.
  • Navigate the dispensary Inventory management system and use findings to aid in sales.
  • Book monthly trainings with vendors to ensure budtenders and dispensary staff are well informed of new product drops.
  • Organize and distribute new product to Dispensary staff under the guidance of the Dispensary Buyer and/or Budmaster.
  • Network with vendors to forge stronger relationships between them and Housing Works Cannabis Co
  • Other duties as directed by your supervisor, COO, President, and Cannabis board members.
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending training meetings/sessions and through independent study.
  • Be a Housing Works Ambassador by knowing and communicating the Mission Statement, outreaching to the community, and participating in a minimum of four direct actions per year aimed at ending the dual crises of homelessness and HIV/AIDS.
